Eagle Rare 17 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey 2023 Tasting Notes
Nose: The first smell is a punchier-than-the-proof-implies aroma of chocolate covered cherries, the confectionary and fruity notes hitting simultaneously. There’s also a hefty helping of flambéed fruit, specifically plums, peaches, and tart apples.
Palate: The 2023 release of Eagle Rare 17 is one of the most cherry-forward bourbons. And it isn’t just one type: black, sweet, tart, and Maraschino are all there with enough time and an inquisitive palate.
Finish: The midpalate swings back to chocolate ganache as things transition from the tongue to the throat on a lengthy and mouth-watering finish.
Distillery Information
Eagle Rare is a brand of straight Bourbon distilled at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. There are two single-barrel expressions produced by Eagle Rare.The Double Rare Very Rare is a 20 year-old bourbon that matures for for twice as long as the standard Eagle Rare offering. It is on the market as a collectors item, bottled in a crystal decanter and adorned with a glass eagle on the top. Both whiskeys are highly acclaimed – the Eagle Rare in particular is one of the most regular award winners of all Bourbon labels, receiving Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition five times.
